What age is BeaverBot Cutter 2 designed for?

BeaverBot Cutter 2 is designed for kids ages 4 and up, plus older siblings and adults who love to make things.

What materials can BeaverBot C2 cut?

C2 is tuned for soft, everyday craft and recyclable materials, including:

Corrugated cardboard and shipping boxes (up to ~3 mm with the standard head)
Cereal boxes and cardstock
Craft felt and foam sheets
Thin fabrics and denim patches
Cellophane and similar thin plastic sheets
Soft cork board (within thickness limits)

If you’re unsure about a material, test a small piece first with an adult watching.

Can BeaverBot C2 cut 5 mm cardboard? How does ProCut™ work?

Out of the box, C2 is optimized for up to ~3 mm materials like standard cardboard.

With the optional ProCut™ Upgrade Kit, senior kids (12+) and adults can cut thicker, softer materials up to around 5 mm, such as heavy corrugated cardboard and thicker foam.

ProCut™ is an upgrade cutting head that you install in a short, guided process. It is meant for advanced projects and senior makers and should not be used with very hard or rigid materials.

Can C2 cut wood, metal or very hard plastics?

No. BeaverBot C2 is not designed for cutting wood, metal, glass, or hard plastics.

If a material is too hard, the motor will struggle or the safety system will stop the cut to protect the machine. For safety and performance, stick to soft materials like cardboard, foam, felt, fabric, and similar craft supplies.

How loud is BeaverBot C2?

C2 is designed to be low-noise and low-stress compared to many power tools. The noise level controlled between 60-75 dB.

Do we need special cardboard, or can we use boxes from our recycling?

You can absolutely use regular household cardboard – that’s part of the fun. Shipping boxes, snack boxes, tissue boxes and more can all become raw material for projects, as long as they’re clean and within C2’s thickness range.

We also offer curated cardboard kits and templates for families who prefer a ready-to-go experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials can BeaverBot work with?

We recommend using corrugated or craft cardboard that is 3mm (or about 1/8 inch) thick or less. This includes most packaging boxes, cereal boxes, and DIY craft boards.

BeaverBot is also suitable for cutting materials like 0.02in plastic, fabric, craft foam board and paper. Always ensure materials are clean, dry, and flat for optimal performance and safety!

Does BeaverBot require assembly?

No tools or setup required! BeaverBot comes fully assembled and ready to use out of the box. Just plug in the power cable, press the nose button, and you're ready to cut.

How do I maintain and clean BeaverBot?

To empty the waste box:
1. Power off BeaverBot

2. Pull out the rear module of BeaverBot—this contains the built-in waste box.

3. Dispose of the collected paper scraps, then reinsert the module securely.

Note: We recommend emptying the waste box approximately every 20 minutes of use to maintain optimal performance.

To clean the cutting area:
1. Power off BeaverBot

2. Remove the cutting board from the front of the device, and use a small cleaning brush (included or similar) to gently sweep away any paper dust or residue inside the cutting mechanism.

Note: Avoid using liquids or abrasive tools.

Regular maintenance helps keep BeaverBot safe, clean, and ready for every creative adventure!

What age range is BeaverBot suitable for?

BeaverBot is designed for children ages 4 and up. While the core tool is safe and intuitive for young makers, we provide a variety of project kits tailored to different developmental stages.

Each kit includes age-appropriate activities and skill-building challenges to support your child’s creative growth over time. Whether your child is just beginning to explore hands-on making or ready for more complex builds, there’s a Beaverbot experience designed to grow with them.

What inspired us to create BeaverBot?

BeaverBot was born from one simple idea: what if we could bring the power of making into every child’s hands—safely?

Our founder, an MIT graduate inspired by the course How to Make Almost Anything, believed in learning by doing. After years of building with advanced tools like 3D printers and laser cutters, he realized those machines were far too complex—and dangerous—for kids. So, he set out to create a DIY cutting tool that was fun, safe, and easy to use.

From a cardboard-cutting prototype to a fully reimagined child-friendly machine, BeaverBot has been shaped by 14 iterations, real feedback, and a passion to empower young creators.

What certification does BeaverBot get?

When it comes to kids, the highest safety standards are just the beginning. Every unit of BeaverBot is independently tested and certified to meet or exceed international toy safety standards, including CPC, EN71, IC, SOR and ROHS. We use only non-toxic, child-safe materials to ensure worry-free play.

What Can I Start With BeaverBot?

Every BeaverBot C1 Kit includes two beginner-friendly cardboard projects designed for kids ages 4 and up.
