What materials can BeaverBot work with?

We recommend using corrugated or craft cardboard that is 3mm (or about 1/8 inch) thick or less. This includes most packaging boxes, cereal boxes, and DIY craft boards.

BeaverBot is also suitable for cutting materials like 0.02in plastic, fabric, craft foam board and paper. Always ensure materials are clean, dry, and flat for optimal performance and safety!

How do I maintain and clean BeaverBot?

To empty the waste box:
1. Power off BeaverBot

2. Pull out the rear module of BeaverBot—this contains the built-in waste box.

3. Dispose of the collected paper scraps, then reinsert the module securely.

Note: We recommend emptying the waste box approximately every 20 minutes of use to maintain optimal performance.

To clean the cutting area:
1. Power off BeaverBot

2. Remove the cutting board from the front of the device, and use a small cleaning brush (included or similar) to gently sweep away any paper dust or residue inside the cutting mechanism.

Note: Avoid using liquids or abrasive tools.

Regular maintenance helps keep BeaverBot safe, clean, and ready for every creative adventure!

What inspired us to create BeaverBot?

BeaverBot was born from one simple idea: what if we could bring the power of making into every child’s hands—safely?

Our founder, an MIT graduate inspired by the course How to Make Almost Anything, believed in learning by doing. After years of building with advanced tools like 3D printers and laser cutters, he realized those machines were far too complex—and dangerous—for kids. So, he set out to create a DIY cutting tool that was fun, safe, and easy to use.

From a cardboard-cutting prototype to a fully reimagined child-friendly machine, BeaverBot has been shaped by 14 iterations, real feedback, and a passion to empower young creators.
